Exploration of various Unangax Studies topics taught either through hands-on learning or lecture-based learning. Topics pertain to cultural and traditional ways of knowing and may include a cross-disciplinary approach. (Course may be repeated for credit when content varies.)
Unangan Wellness (3cr)
This course explores the six dimensions of wellness (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, environmental, and social) from an Unangax perspective. Students will examine Unangan values, discuss traditions, and identify strategies and tools that can aid in improving individual and community wellness.
An Introduction to the History of St. Paul Island (3cr)
This course examines the political, economic, social, and cultural education evolution of the Unangan people of St. Paul Island. It emphasizes the influence of Russian and United States forces, the Unangan response over time, and current revitalization efforts. Critical thinking and reading are required.
