This course provides as overview of the historical frameworks and current trends that influence the field of education at the national, state, and local levels. Both philosophical and pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning are explored with careful attention to topics such as honoring cultural knowledge, differentiated instruction, and establishing an ethic of excellence in the classroom. 20 hours of field experience are required, and a background check may be needed specific to the site.
